What Is 4-HO-MET?
4-HO-MET is a member of the Tryptamine class. 4-HO-MET or 4-Hydroxy-N-methyl-N-ethyltryptamine is a chemical that has been said to induce psilocybin-like effects. Anecdotal reports have mentioned typical cognitive effects associated with chemicals of this type. Synthesis and pharmacology of 4-HO-MET were first completed by Alexander Shulgan (The Godfather of Psychedelics). His report on its effects on humans was documented in his book TiHKAL (Tryptamines I Have Known and Loved). It is important to note that 4-HO-MET is not for human consumption, adequate measures should be taken when experimental research takes place.

4-HO-MET is part of the Tryptamine class. All Tryptamines share a structure made up of an amino group that is attached to a bicyclic indole heterocycle which is attached at R3 via an ethyl side chain. It is at R4 of its indole heterocycle that 4-HO-MET is substituted (with a hydroxyl functional group OH-). Within the structure can also be found a methyl group and ethyl chain bound attached to the terminal amine RN of its Tryptamine backbone (MET).
Note: Because minimal clinical research has been conducted, exact dosage levels are unknown and all available dosage information has been gathered via anecdotal reports. 4-HO-MET is not approved for human consumption and is not to be handled without proper laboratory equipment including eye protection and gloves.
4-HO-MET Tolerance
While 4-HO-MET is not considered fit for human consumption, some experimental research has indicated that tolerance is built quickly to the substance. This will not only mean a reduced effect from 4-HO-MET if taken again within a short period of time from the initial ingestion, but the tolerance might also affect the results when experiments are done with other chemicals that are known for their psychedelic effects.
It may take 3 days for the tolerance to the effect of 4-HO-MET to be reduced to half and 7 days to return the participant to their original state of tolerance (the estimate is based on the understanding that 4-HO-MET or any other such chemicals are not used within the ‘recovery’ time).

Austria – 4-HO-MET is illegal to produce, possess and sell under the NPSG (Neue-Psychoaktive-Substanzen-Gesetz Österreich).
UK – the possession of 4-HO-MET is restricted according to the Psychoactive Substances Act of 2016. It is considered a Class-A drug.
Germany – a recent shift in German law saw the production and import of 4-HO-MET to become illegal and punishable by law (New Psychoactive Substances Act). Possession is illegal however not punishable.
Switzerland – you find it named as a controlled substance in Switzerland under Verzeichnis E.
USA – while 4-HO-MET is unscheduled under US law in most states, it can potentially land a researcher in trouble under the Federal Analogue Act, due to the fact that it is an analogue of a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act.
Brazil – production, possession and use of 4-HO-MET is prohibited in the country due to it being listed on Portaria SVS/MS nº 344.
